Cradle to Cradle®

With customers getting more involved and making deliberate choices, it is increasingly important to Desso and to the clients we serve to recognize responsibilities to clients, suppliers and to the wider community in which we live and work.

At Desso, all our products are certified to the highest international industry standards. In addition, we have adopted the Cradle to Cradle® philosophy, pioneered by German chemist Prof. Michael Braungart and US architect William McDonough. Cradle to Cradle® is a closed loop theory that aims at creating only products that can either be entirely recycled to provide the raw materials for new identical products, or that are 100% bio degradable.

We are progressing toward a 100% Cradle to Cradle® strategy in 2020. We are closing in on that sustainable cycle by sourcing sustainable raw materials, introducing new manufacturing methods and collecting and recycling used carpets from our clients where possible. It represents a tremendous challenge that will take several years to fulfill – although Desso already achieved Cradle to Cradle® Silver certification for an entire carpet tile product as only carpet tile manufacturer in the world.

NH Sustainable Club

In 2008, NH Hoteles launched the NH Sustainable Club: an innovation lab to develop sustainable solutions in the hospitality industry, to make these solutions financially sound and to communicate about its achievements and commitment.

The Club is formed by a selected group of nominated suppliers especially involved with environmental issues and sustainability. Desso is a member of the NH Sustainable Club and as such works with NH Hoteles on the design, development and implementation of action plans to achieve sustainable goals.

Among other activities, The Club organizes an annual Event: a meeting point for members, NH board members and relevant representants of our society, and a forum to share visions, actions and strategies from which we can all learn and settle new opportunities to work together. Desso attended the third edition of the Event on 5 July 2011, of which you can find a video report below.
